National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto
The National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto is currently undergoing a major refurbishment project to upgrade the museum halls and the towers of the Albornoz Fortress. The first step of the project has now been concluded with the official opening of the Towers in June 2024: a panoramic route allows visitors to explore rooms never accessible before and to enjoy a breath-taking view on an extraordinary landscape of valleys, hills, villages and ancient architectures.
With the support of the museum’s scientific curatorship, Magister Art was commissioned to create new multimedia contents to accompany visitors in their understanding of this unique place.
The multimedia intervention unfolds along the entire route of the Towers and takes the form of an investigation into the aspects and functions of the Fortress: the construction of the building in its historical context, life inside the fortress, its use as a prison from the mid 19th century until 1982, ending with a comparison between the present day and the 14th century. It is a true exploratory journey with a strong emotional impact, involving visitors through all senses.
The music has been specially composed from an in-depth study of the musical instruments of the area and the type of secular music written and performed at the time, readapted in a contemporary key.
Thanks to an interdisciplinary language that brings together text, video, images, graphic animation and original music, the multimedia audiovisual contents offer an amplified vision that provides an augmented narrative of the Fortress, making the visit to the Towers a truly immersive experience.
The video contents were developed based on key guidelines for accessibility, with special attention to the readability of the texts (contrast between text and background, font size and line spacing) to ensure the information is comprehensible to all, regardless of visual ability.
Further multimedia contents will be created in the coming months to enrich the visit to the Museum rooms, dedicated to the historical events of the Duchy of Spoleto.
