Art Meets Technology – The Head of Ulysses

Commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the project explores the relationship between cultural heritage and innovation, offering a reflection on the role of new technologies in the enhancement and transmission of cultural heritage.

Art Meets Technology – The Head of Ulysses is a project conceived and developed by Magister Art on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, created to explore the dialogue between cultural heritage, research and innovation through a replica of the renowned Head of Ulysses from the National Archaeological Museum and Archaeological Area of Sperlonga.

The project approaches the replica not as a reinterpretation of the ancient artwork, but as a tool for knowledge and the enhancement of cultural heritage. Produced from a three-dimensional scan of the original sculpture, the replica faithfully reproduces the documented state of conservation of the work, preserving its losses, fractures and traces of time without reconstructing or reintegrating its missing parts.

Alongside the replica, the project includes a series of audiovisual contents dedicated to the archaeological context of the Head of Ulysses, the process behind the creation of the replica, and the relationship between cultural heritage, research and innovation. Through a multimedia narrative, the exhibition reflects on the role of new technologies not only in the documentation and study of the artwork, but also in developing new ways of understanding and transmitting cultural heritage.

The figure of Ulysses thus becomes the starting point for a broader reflection on the value of knowledge as a driver of innovation, bringing together historical memory and contemporary research.

The replica was presented for the first time at the Ratcliffe Art + Design Incubator of Florida International University, while, during the same period (22.06.2026 - 22.07.2026), the original Head of Ulysses, on loan from the National Archaeological Museum and Archaeological Area of Sperlonga, was exceptionally exhibited at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum in Miami.
