Magister Art takes part in the exhibition “Canova. Eterna bellezza”

Magister presents a new installation for the exhibition Canova. Eterna Bellezza (09 Oct 2019 - 15 March 2020) at Museo di Roma: a stunning reinterpretation on a 1:1 scale of the famous sculpture by Antonio Canova.

From a 3D file, generated scanning the original plaster cast Canova used to create his masterpiece, now in the Louvre Paris collection, a robot carved relentlessly for 270 hours a block of white Carrara marble.

This innovative installation, conceived and realized by Magister in collaboration with Robotor, pushes the idea of artwork reproducibility to a new level: the replica is intended as a tribute to Canova and expresses a renewed desire to celebrate once again his tremendous creativity.

The installation is complemented by two videos, on display in the courtyard rooms: one describing the carving process and the other narrating the Fable of Cupid and Psyche which Canova used for inspiration. The flowery words by philologist Giuliano Pisani, the silvery voice of actor Adriano Giannini and the original soundtrack composed by cellist Giovanni Sollima accompany visitors in the discovery of Canova’s masterpiece.
