The Italian Navy in the Underwater Dimension
The world premiere of the exhibition Deep Blue: the Italian Navy in the Underwater Dimension will be held in the prestigious Sala del Bucintoro at the Venice Arsenal. The exhibition celebrates the Italian Navy’s commitment to the safe, secure, and sustainable use of the underwater dimension.
The exhibition, conceived and realised by Magister Art, was organised by the Italian Navy on the occasion of the 14th edition of the Trans-Regional Seapower Symposium (T-RSS) dedicated to the theme of the underwater dimension as a new frontier for humanity (8 - 10 October 2024).
The exhibition, part of the ‘Orizzonte Verticale’ (Vertical Horizon) format dedicated to enhancing the Italian Navy, is marked by a multimedia path and immerses the visitor in an immersive experience consisting of images, videos, audio and digital infographics.
There are four thematic areas into which the initiative is divided:
1. Ocean Planet: A narrative on the crucial role of the Ocean in people’s daily lives and its main capacity to be a connecting element between peoples. Oceans and Seas represent 70% of the Earth’s surface and are among the main connecting elements, yet there is still a lack of awareness of their problems and criticalities.
2. Multidomain Operations: a journey through the multi-domain reality of operations at sea and the importance of cutting-edge technologies to successfully operate and compete in this context, integrating traditional, space and cyber operations.
3. The Underwater Dimension: the seabed hosts strategic infrastructure such as pipelines and cables for data transmission. The focus is on technological evolution, seabed security and the future agenda of the National Underwater Pole (PNS)
4. International Cooperation: Cooperation as a key element in the equitable management of resources, the creation of a safe maritime environment and directing effective dialogue dynamics between nations. Videos and images focus on the general activities of the Italian Navy in the framework of International Cooperation.
A further area is dedicated to the Amerigo Vespucci school ship, described as the ‘most beautiful ship in the world’, a symbol of values such as equality, solidarity, education and inclusion. During the exhibition, it will be possible to virtually explore every aspect of the ship thanks to a 3D reproduction created by the University of Florence and, at the same time, admire its almost 5-metre-long physical model.
A selection of the contents of the exhibition was also presented in Rome on the occasion of “Villaggio Difesa” (1 - 4 November 2024): a four-day fair dedicated to promoting the activities of the Armed Forces with over 50 stands of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza, distributed over an area of 60,000 square metres at the Circus Maximus.
