08.09.2020 - 31.10.2020

Magister Raffaello has been selected by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs among the cultural initiatives to be promoted by the global network of Italian Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes, becoming the protagonist of a great international tour.

The first stop on the journey of this exhibition, celebrating Raphael and Italian art, will be promoted by the Italian Embassy in Hanoi, with the patronage of the City of Hanoi and the support of Italian companies operating in Vietnam. It will be hosted at an exceptional venue, the Hanoi Museum (Bảo tàng Hà Nội). The Museum, designed by GMP Architects, Meinhard von Gerkan and Nikolaus Goetze, as an inverted pyramid, occupying 30.000 square metres, was inaugurated in 2010 on the occasion of the celebrations for the thousands-year-old history of the city.

Magister Raffaello will be hosted in the central circular atrium, a dominant feature of the building. The exhibition is presented to the international public as an unprecedented experiential story. It is structured around six key works by the great renaissance artist: within the six dedicated areas, visitors will be able to experience first-hand the history of Raphael and the places where he lived and worked. They will get to know his world through other works of his as well as through works by artists, scholars and philosophers who over time interacted with his life and work: like actors populating an ideal and spectacular theatrical stage, transfigured in the exhibition. The exhibition narrative underscores the formative elements in the artist’s life as well as the universal aspects of the common human experience, an ideal paradigm for the promotion and appreciation of his entire career as a painter. Magister Raffaello: an experiential novel which puts the visitors centre stage and makes them into participants in the vicissitudes and the life story of the great artist.
