On Sunday, September 2, on the occasion of Magister Canova, Giovanni Sollima will hold an exclusive concert for cello in the suggestive hall of the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice.
An eclectic musician , Giovanni Sollima is also the author of Magister Canova’s soundscape. The concert will therefore represent a very special moment: Sollima will finally develop the musics he accurately composed for the exhibition, while letting them free to interact with the surrounding, incredible space. The musician will also perform the compositions of a number of authors contemporary of Canova, such as Luigi Boccherini.
As recounted by Giovanni Sollima: “I composed the music in real-time, directly in the recording studio. I thought that the best key to interpretation was to draw inspiration directly from the images and the narration on Canova, walking away from the most certain and historical references. Each track is characterized by a circularity that makes it atemporal. To the cello sound, sometimes, I added other arrangements, especially when I wanted to entrust more intensity.”
The concert will start at 9.00 pm. Entrance from 8.30 pm.
Magister Canova is the second act of a trilogy that will round off in 2018 with Magister Raffaello. The exhibition has been created with a scientific committee with a high international profile and the collaboration of the Fondazione Canova Gypsotheca and Museo Antonio Canova di Possagno.
The exhibition will remain open for the entire day.
